Ordering one feels

#In a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona, there's a fleet of 600 minivans shuttling people from place to place. Ordering one feels almost exactly like calling an Uber, except for one thing: the vans are driving themselves.

#However, you'll rarely see them on the signs at your local store, so ordering one feels just as fun as asking for something from the secret menu.

A was more than B

"Above350,000 was spent by the French on computers which was slightly more than the British who spent exactly 350,000. "

A was more than B"

A: Above350,000 was spent by the French on computers
B: British (who spent exactly 350,000. )

as opposed to

原句:
"With regards to tennis, the figure for boys who played that sport was 50 as opposed to just under 40 for girls"

"In terms of cars, people in the UK spent about £450,000 on this as opposed to the French at £400,000."

=>"With regards to tennis, the figure for boys who played that sport was 50 as opposed to the girls at 40.

=>"In terms of cars, people spent about £450,000 on this as opposed to at £400,000 in France  ."

"Alex goes to Japan on business as opposed to a holiday."
"Alex goes to Japan on business as opposed to Thailand."

compared to

"The least amount of money was spent on perfume in the UK compared to cameras in France"

"My own problems seem insignificant compared with other people's."

問題:

是" perfume in the UK " 嗎?

double

The amount of budget in 2017 is the double of the amount of budget in 2016.
The amount of budget doubled between 2016 and 2017

"There were twice as many accidents at the factory this year as last year."

There was twice as many amount of budget in 2017 as in 2016.

"many more than"

more than:
There was more rainfall in April than in May.

"To make these expressions stronger, you can use many, much, far. : many more than, much more than, far less than."

There was much more rainfall in April than in May.
There was far more rainfall in April than in May.

There are many more people in Taipei than in Tainan.
There are much more people in Taipei than in Tainan.

多很多
many more... than
much more... than
far more... than

多一點
slightly more... than
a little more... than

少很多
many fewer...than
much fewer...than
many less... than
much less... than

There were many fewer people in Taipei than in Tainan.
There was much less pollution in Tainan than in Taipei

少一點
slightly fewer... than
a little fewer... than
slightly less... than
a little less... than

There were slightly fewer people in my home town than in yours.
There were a little fewer people in my home town than in yours.
There was slightly less pollution in my home town than in yours.
There was a little less pollution in my home town than in yours.

to be found

"The main reason for this lies in the higher level of stress to be found in urban areas."

"The main reason for this lies in the higher level of stress that is found in urban areas."

is beneficial to

原句:

"When it comes to health, views differ regarding whether it is beneficial to live in cities. Personally, I completely agree that city life ha largely negative effects on health. "

"When it comes to health, views differ regarding whether living in cities is beneficial to it(health). Personally, I completely agree that city life ha largely negative effects on health. "

"A good diet is beneficial to health."

A new class of drug that could prevent depression and PTSD | Rebecca Brachman

https://www.ted.com/talks/rebecca_brachman_a_new_class_of_drug_that_could_prevent_depression_and_ptsd/transcript#t-185760

#1
"So the first antidepressants were made from, of all things, rocket fuel, leftover after World War II."

So the first antidepressants were made from, rocket fuel, leftover after World War II."

#2
"Which is fitting, seeing as today, one in five soldiers develops depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder or both."

"Which is fitting":
"seeing as today": 直接化簡成"today"

"Today, one in five soldiers develops depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder or both."

But it's not just soldiers that are at high risk for these diseases.
But it's not just soldiers in high risks for these diseases."

#3
"So think back to a stressful time that you've since recovered from."

"So think back to a stressful time that you've recovered from."

Feathery

#1
Did you know that there is a kind of bird that can sew? This bird, called the tailor-bird, uses its beak as a needle. It sews leaves together in the shape of a cup. Then it lines the cup with straw and lays its eggs there.

-The coat was lined with silk
-Line the pan with greaseproof paper.

#2
The writer of this passage admires
d. the effort it takes to build a nest.

" to look at something and think that it is attractive and/or impressive"
-I've just been admiring your new car.

Nonetheless, there is evidence that online networking can transform our daily interactions. In an experiment at Cornell University, psychologist Jeff Hancock asked participants to try to encourage other participants to like them via instant messaging conversation. Beforehand, some members of the trial were allowed to view the Facebook profile of the person they were trying to win over. He found that those with Facebook access asked questions to which they already knew the answers or raised things they had in common, and as result were much more successful in their social relationships. Hancock concluded that people who use these sites to keep updated on the activities of their acquaintances are more likely to be liked in subsequent social interactions.

The common belief about how Park and Livingstone travelled is accurate.

The Hidden Histories of Exploration exhibition at Britain's Royal Geographical Society in London sets out to present an alternative view, in which exploration is a fundamentally collective experience of work, involving many different people. Many of the most famous examples of explorers said to have been 'lone travellers' - say, Mungo Park or David Livingstone in Africa - were anything but ‘alone’ on their travels. They depended on local support of various kinds - for food, shelter, protection, information, guidance and solace - as well as on other resources from elsewhere.

2 The common belief about how Park and Livingstone travelled is accurate.
TRUE
FALSE
NotGiven

Not Given

雖然文中有提到 " Many of the most famous examples of explorers said to have been 'lone travellers'"( "許多有名的例子,探險家被形容成是單獨的旅行者") 但也只能說是"被形容",似乎不能等同於 "common belief " (大眾認為).

eye movements

"The main finding in our study is that it is possible at all to just look at eye movements and then predict something about their personality. And before our study, it was not clear at all if this would be possible from eye movements in such an unconstrained real world setting. "

-used to show the reason for making a judgement: You can tell a lot about a person from their handwriting.

Australia's Lost Giants

"Given how much ink has been spilled on the extinction of the dinosaurs, it's a wonder that even more hasn't been devoted to megafauna.”

但不知道 "even more hasn't" 怎麼用?
"that"後 有動詞 "hasn't been devoted', 那有主詞嗎?

in order to highlight the need to promote the ISS in a positive way

原文:
"The writer refers to the Hubble Space Telescope in order to highlight the need to promote the ISS in a positive way"

"The writer refers to the Hubble Space Telescope in order to highlight the need of promoting  in a positive way for the ISS"

marketing report

原文:
1. Anna: Well, since this is your first marketing report, you're not expected to go out and do interviews and things to collect your own data, you're just using published data. So the analysis you do might not throw up anything that people didn't know before. But the focus is more on how you handle the data. I mean, you might take something like a graph of sales directly from a website, but what makes your work original is the perspective you provide by your interpretation of it.

2. Leo: Oh. You know, it's all so different from business studies assignments at school. It's really surprised me.

3. Anna: What? How much research you have to do?

4. Leo: I expected that. It's more... I knew exactly what I had to do to get a good grade at school.
And I knew I'd be expected to go more deeply into things here, but I haven't got information on how the lecturer is going to grade my work - what he's looking for.

問題:

4.
-"I expected that".
-"I haven't got information on how the lecturer is going to grade my work".
